What is it ?
The m-Log is a USB controller interface based around a muio interface (http://muio.org). Like the iLog, the m-Log fits in the palm of your hand and is made using a semicircular cross-section of a branch. Personalise yours with switches, wooden knobs and an accelerometer. The m-Log uses Open Sound Control and has plug and play compatibility with a wide variety of applications, including
SuperCollider
MAX MSP
Pure Data
SuperCollider
Processing
Open Frameworks
Or any other software that can receive OSC messages.
What can it do ?
Collect data from sensory inputs and send these to your computer as numbers.
To keep things relatively standardized, each log has two rotary potentiometers, 4 switches and an accelerometer. This provides the basic interface for people to be able to share any code or patches.
The board itself has 8 analogue inputs and 8 switches so the log can be extended with light sensors, pressure sensors etc.
At the moment Seth holds the record for the most pimped log with the basic m-Log extended with 4 light sensors, a infra-red sensor and a mystery hole.
How do I get one ?
We are not really interested in spending time building logs for people and prefer the idea that each one is individual. So far we have run workshops where we prepare all the necessary materials and people come along and learn how to build one and use software. The first of these was a one day workshop at FACT in Liverpool, we then felt this was a little too short and did a two day workshop at SPACE in London. We are also considering releasing a kit.
We are currently working with the following venues to run our workshops.
[ SPACE ] - London
New Media Scotland - Edinburgh
When we have enough interest for each venue we will announce a workshop.
The cost will be about £180 for 2 days.

Please also state which city you would like the workshop to be in.
